Located on the North side of the downstream of Tien River, also the center of the Mekong Delta, Can Tho has been known as one of the green destination. The city is an independent municipality at the same level as provinces of Vietnam. It was established in the beginning of 2004 by a split of the former Can Tho Province into two new administrative units: Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province.
The city of Can Tho is divided into nine districts, in which Ninh Kieu, that has the well-known port - Ninh Kieu port, is the center district and also the most populated and wealthiest districts. Can Tho has a complex of rivers and canals such as Hau, and Can Tho rivers, Thot Not, O Mon canals. Among them, the Hau River considered a benefactor of this region, since yearly floods deposit large quantities of alluvia to the rice fields. Thank to that Can Tho becomes "the green lungs of the Mekong Delta.
Can Tho is considered for 200 years as the main town, once known as Tay Do and now one city of Vietnam. All of economic, culture activities closely relate to river and canals which are the most effective transportation. Can Tho is famous for its floating markets, where people sell and purchase things on the river, as well as the bird gardens and the port of Ninh Kieu, Buddhist pagodas, delicious food and fresh fruits and the beauty of the Mekong girls. Can Tho has simple, poetic beauty with well-off villages under shade of coconut trees. It is wonderful to take a boat trip along the riverbanks on fine weather days. On the east bank of Hau River is Ninh Kieu Wharf, which is well known for its beautiful location. Other interesting tourist attractions are Cantho Bridge, Nam Nha Pagoda, Binh Thuy Temple, Bang Lang Stock Sanctuary, Cantho and My Khanh Tourist gardens and Cantho Market, The Cantho City Museum which has exhibits on the city’s history. The city offers a wide range of tropical fruits such as pomelo, longan, jackfruit, mangoand durian.
Long Tuyen Village
This is an old village in the south of Can Tho Citywhich is the destination that attracts many tourists not only because of its beautifully natural scenery, but also the cultural relics that remains after hundreds of years. The architecture and culture in Long Tuyen is very unique because it is the combination of various cultures from Western to Eastern, including Chinese, French, American, Cham and Japanese. This place also possesses six of 18 national relics in Can Tho, including famous locations such as Binh Thuy Temple, Nam Nha Pagoda or Binh Thuy Old House. Moreover, the Ky Yen Festival takes place here. It can be said that Long Tuy village is a rare destination that contains various typical characteristics of the culture in this region.
Ninh Kieu Pier
Ninh Kieu dock, with Ho Chi Minh statue standing still, is the symbol of Can Tho City. This is also embankment and park, which makes it always in bustle all day and night. There’s antique market here, where people sell souvenirs for tourists.
Can Tho Floating Market
Floating Market, or “Cho Noi” is one of the destinations you can’t miss in Mekong Delta. This type of market can be found in most provinces of Mekong and some big and famous floating markets are Cai Rang, Phong Dien (CanTho City), Nga Nam (Soc Trang) , Nga Bay (Hau Giang). Floating markets have existed for a long time in the region. It basically is a market where people sell and buy things above water.
Located fantasticly facing the Can Tho River, Ong temple is set inside the Guangzhou Assembly Hall and is the most interesting religious site in town. It was originally built in the late 19th century to worship Kuang Kung, a deity symbolising loyalty, justice, reason, intelligence, honour and courage, among other merits. It is designed to symbolise the Chinese character for nation, with rows of enclosed sections laid out symmetrically. Approaching the engraved screen, the right side is dedicated to the Goddess of Fortune and the left side is reserved for the worship of General Ma Tien. In the centre of the temple is Kuang Kung flanked by the God of Earth and the God of Finance.
Quang Duc Pagoda
Quang Duc Pagoda is one of the biggest and most active Buddhist Temples with monks living in the premises
