Referring to Vinh Long, anyone can associate to the land of crisscrossed waterways, floating boats, fruitful orchards and lush green fields. Lying between the Hau and Tien rivers in the center of the Mekong Delta, Vinh Long is very rich in alluvium, favorable for rice and various fruit cultivation.

Established in 1732 by the Nguyen lords, Vinh Long nowadays was part of Long Ho Dinh, consisting of the provinces of Ben TreTra Vinh and parts of Can Tho. The area was the witness of some of the heaviest fighting between the Tay Son brothers and the Nguyen lords in the late 18th century. In 1951, the Southern Resistance Administrative Committee of the newly declared Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam) merged Vinh Long and Tra Vinh provinces into Vinh Tra Province. Vinh Tra existed until 1954. To 1957, Vinh Long was formed. In 1976, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh Provinces were merged into Cuu Long Province. In 1991, Cuu Long was again split into Vinh Long and Tra Vinh.

Vinh Long is a promised land which is blessed with captivating beauty. Because of its rich, fertile soil, Vinh Long has many specialty fruits such as strange-looking mangosteen, the spikey rambutan and the pungently fragrant durian, Nam Roi grapefruit, longan, oranges, tangerines and so on. Besides traditional village with the products which are appeared in the world are here as ceramics, textiles projection, knitting, brick. Vinh Long is also well known for fishing, in which prawns and the Basa and Tra catfish are among the many types of fish that exist in abundance in the waters of Vinh Long.

Vinh Long is the gateway to island life and some worthwhile sites, including Cai Be floating market, abundant orchards and rural homestays, which can be a highlight of a Mekong journey. Coming to Vinh Long, tourists have chance to discover a peaceful land and rich nature. In Vinh Long gardens travel tour, one of the most interesting things is that visitors can experience the feeling of floating on the river by canoe boat, listening to lullabies tone of immense.
